Another shipment is being prepped and it is the type that required a lot of driving, pick ups, sorting, and more finicky packing than usual. In Dekpor, the purchasing of all items for the apprentices was completed, the sports court at Dekpor Basic School campus is in progress, there have been a few jobs happening at Dekpor Central Shops, more street lights are shining bright, the new borehole is hooked into our water system, uniforms are being made to measure, and the work done to improve our school computer lab.

The use of tippy taps, soap, frequent hand-washing, social distancing, and modifying typical practices has been encouraged, modeled, and announced as much as possible. If you would like to give to our Combat COVID fund, we surely appreciate the assistance!

Hundreds gathered at the school— students from the school, and adults from Yia, Dome and Horme, to take part in a learning session with DEHO's staff. What sort of info was covered?
  • What is clean water?
  • Why use clean water?
  • Why you should use your own cup/water bottle?
  • How to properly wash hands (the students already know).
  • How to properly use the toilets.
  • How to keep the toilet clean for the next person to use it.
  • What can and can not go down the hole into the holding tank?
  • Why compliance is necessary?
  • To teach family members who weren't able to attend.

More than 240 of our grade 5 to junior high school 3 students gathered in the courtyard this morning to listen to Madam Philipine a former teacher and the present Ketu North District guidance and counselling officer. It was AWESOME!!! She expressed the need to study, to discover one’s own inner drive, the value of technical, vocational and apprenticeship training, and making realistic plans for the future. This is precisely what our Dekpor students need to know. Many are resigned to thinking that the most they will ever be able to do is farm...and then there are others with very unrealistic hopes. We want our kids to do their best, finish to the end of JHS3 at Dekpor Basic, and then make wise choices that will allow them to start breaking the cycle of poverty. We are so thankful to Madam Philipine for her visit. She has given valuable information for the students to consider! Step by Step 2015 Album

HAPPY DANCE!!! In an incredibly generous series of donations, Busch Systems has taken every item off a wish list and is going to financially back us so we can make them all happen! This includes: supporting 3 brothers who desperately need assistance; painting the inside and outside of both the JHS block and administration buildings; 18 locking cabinets; whiteboards for each classroom; basic curriculum kits for design and tech, science, math, phys ed and music; AND allowing us to put the balance of the students enrolled at Dekpor Basic on National Health Insurance!!! With the clinic now open, and only a 15 minute walk from the school, this will give our kids access to health care—for most of them, for the first time ever! Add to this miracle, we now have an emergency medical fund and we'll be able to purchase a first aid kit for the school and have some basic supplies and medicines on hand. Photo albums coming.
