We have a computer lab at Dekpor Basic School unlike anything in the entire region. There are 41 raspberry pi stations, thanks to our friends in Austria. And really, it all comes down to Philip Schäffer who is the key person behind the entire functioning of our current computer lab! Philip has visited several times and with each visit he improves the lab for the good of the students.
We have an ICT secondary school grad, Wisdom, who has been a model sponsored student since 2010. He graduated with top marks last year and is now running a couple of the businesses at Dekpor Central Shops, and has jumped at this special opportunity that has been enabled by Alan Lawrence. Alan is a former outreach volunteer who travelled from Toronto to spend the summer of 2016 in the village.
Alan's donation allows us to pay Wisdom for his hours teaching. With 15 students per class, masked and distanced, there are 3 after-school sessions being held right now for our interested junior high school level 2 and 3 students. There were enough JHS 2 students that they've been placed in one group for girls and one group for boys.
We know that computer literacy will increasingly be required for employment in Ghana and we want to give as many interested students the chance to explore as we possibly can! As it is right now, we have2 graduates and 7 current students focused on ICT at the secondary level, and we'd like to help more students follow this path.
Thanks, Alan, for making these classes possible!
