Aurora Preparatory Academy really outdid themselves this time! In February, Carol was presented with a cheque for $3300--proceeds from their ever-popular Date Night combined with a donation from the school!
We agreed that the funds could be put towards uniforms for the students at Dekpor Basic. Why? There are some children in Dekpor who never, not even for one day, attend school. The reason is sad--the family can not afford a uniform and they are too embarrassed for it to be so obvious.
And then there are students who do show up without the mandated uniform and others who basically are wearing rags. The situation is rather heartbreaking.
This beautiful donation from APA allowed us to make an incredible impact on the almost 800 students enrolled this year. New uniforms were tailor-made by our apprentice seamstresses/tailors. Not only that, but any student who had a uniform that required repairs due to ripped seams, missing buttons, or broken zippers had their uniform repaired.
Brand new Junior High School uniforms: 63
Brand new elementary school uniforms: 213
Repaired existing uniforms: 187
What a difference this has made for the students at Dekpor Basic School!
